Free Agency for Information, Citizenship and Education (Agência Livre para Informação, Cidadania e Educação - ALICE) is
a non-governmental organization that works to develop communication
projects focused on the social area, create forums to discuss the
behavior, ethics and trends of the mainstream press, develop critical
readers and contribute to the democratization and qualification of
information in the country.
The organization’s first projects emerged in 1999.
Alice is constituted by journalists and professionals from diverse areas.
Activities
Give a voice to those without one
Encourage the creation of alternative media among populations without
media representation, especially low-income communities. In addition to
providing a channel for their voices – which guarantees the visibility
of these groups – such projects use communication as a means to
include, encourage self-esteem and instigate the debate on rights,
forms of organization and alternatives for generating income. The
publications that are produced under Alice’s orientation also provide
readers the privilege of learning and reflecting on a reality that is
not revealed in mainstream media.
Discuss communication
Promote the debate between professionals, students and communication
professors. The chosen themes are related to behavior, context, goals
and professional ethics. Through this strategy, the NGO strives
to bring generations together, rescue the historical trajectory of
journalism, recompose and transmit values, and above all, stimulate
critical and plural reflection among communication professionals.
Educate on the media
Hold workshops directed to the general public – especially educators,
students and individuals that work in the social area – with the
purpose of turning consumers of information into critical readers
who are informed about the situation of communication in Brazil and
capable of sharing such knowledge with their respective professional
groups.
